I have been trying to get started with blogging again and have made a few false starts with trying some new things, but I am now back to blogger again. I was struggling to come up with a name for my blog and remembered one of my favorite poems, She Walks in Beauty, by Lord Byron.
She Walks in Beauty
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that 's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
I know there are many interpretations of this poem that are less than the ideal on the surface, but I prefer the simplest interpretation, that Old Georgie boy was smitten with this lovely woman in both her physical beauty and her character. I also love that he loves her darkness and her brightness, because I seem to need that kind of counterpoint to really feel deeply about something too.
So I am hoping that this blog will be a place for me to write about all that's best of dark and bright in my perception!
